Fondant Covered Car Cake {Boy’s 1st Birthday}

This is my first attempt at fondant so please don’t be too harsh! I am happy with the way it looks, even though I know there are mistakes and seams and uneven edges all over. The idea for the cake came from this picture.

Since this was a practice run, to get familiar with the fondant, I didn’t make it very detailed. In fact, it’s going to have another 12″ layer of cake on the bottom, making it 3 tiers. Plus, I’m going to add clouds, more road around the bottom layer, and pipe green “grass” along all the flat surfaces.

The truck at the top is cute but it might be too large in scale for the cake. Here is a smaller car (don’t mind the freakish clowns driving). My daughter doesn’t have many toy cars so I was scraping the bottom of the toy bin for these!

The topper was made using a wooden skewer and Dots candies. I made the little medallion on top using My Digital Studio, printed on white paper, punching it out with a 1 3/4″ Circle Punch. Then, I adhered it to another piece of card stock (also punched with the 1 3/4″ Circle) to make it stronger. I used Sticky Tape all over the back of the circle and then gathered Real Red 5/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon along the edges, sticking it to the Sticky Tape. To finish it off, I glued another circle of card stock on the back with Sticky Tape again.

Beautiful Spring Butterflies {Congratulations Card}

I love how this turned out so cheery and bright. The base is Chocolate Chip card stock, layered with Barely Banana.

The focal point of the card is the row of little butterflies mounted on color coordinated circles. I used the Beautiful Wings Embosslit and the Big Shot to make them in 4 colors: Regal Rose, Chocolate Chip, Barely Banana, and Kiwi Kiss. Whenever I use the Beautiful Wings Embosslit, I save all the extra butterflies in a little ziploc baggie and when I need them, they’re ready to go.

I mounted each tiny butterfly on Whisper White punched out with the 1/2″ Circle Punch. Then, I layered each white circle on the corresponding color, punched out with the 3/4″ Circle Punch. Those are adhered to the base with Stampin Dimensionals.

As for the sentiment, I stamped “congratulations” from Well Scripted in Chocolate Chip ink below the butterflies. I added a strip of Chocolate Chip card stock that I punched with the Scallop Trim Border Punch and adhered it behind the Whisper White layer.  Around the edges of the Whisper White, I paper pierced to give it definition. Finally, the Regal Rose 5/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon was tied around the White layer and adhered to the base with Stampin Dimensionals.

Tall Tales Animal Cards

Lately, I’ve been on a Designer Series Paper kick. Is it just me or are the DSP’s better than ever? Here, I used Tall Tales DSP as my main image, stamping only a sentiment and adding some embellishments for a quick general occasion card.

The base is Barely Banana, cut to 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″. I layered the Tall Tales DSP with Chocolate Chip card stock to make it pop more. Across the front, I added a 1″ x 4″ strip of Chocolate Chip card stock and then wrapped 5/8″ Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon around the top layers.

The sentiment is from Whimsical Words (a Saleabration set) stamped in Chocolate Chip ink on Whisper White. I punched that out with the 1 3/8″ Circle Punch and layered it onto Old Olive that I punched out with the Scallop Circle Punch. The brad is a 1/4″ Chocolate Chip Epoxy Brad from the Occasions Mini. I adhered the Scallop Circle to the base with Stampin Dimensionals.

This is another version using the same ingredients as above, with a few changes. First, this card is A2 size, 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. The base is Close to Cocoa, layered with Tall Tales DSP and Chocolate Chip card stock.

Since the paper is so bright and busy, all I did was add a sentiment and embellishment to the front. I stamped “small wonder” from Whimsical Words in Chocolate Chip ink on Whisper White and then punched it out with the Large Oval Punch. I layered that onto a Rose Red Scallop Oval Punch and using the cropadile, added a Circle Rhinestone Brad in green to the “o” of wonder. That was then attached to the base with Stampin Dimensionals.
