Modern Mix Mother’s Day Card

By mixing the cute silhouette of a little girl and a bold graphic print, this Mother’s Day card has the right blend of modern and traditional. Using the Stampin UP window panes (soon to be retired so get them while they last) makes the silhouette image look like a picture hanging on a wallpapered wall.

I stamped the silhouette, an upcoming hostess set called Priority Mail from the new catalog (to be released June 1), in chocolate chip ink on whisper white card stock, then matted it with early espresso card stock and placed it behind one of the window panes to create a picture frame look. The ribbon slides through slits on either side of the window pane to hold the frame in place. The ribbon I used here is Crumb Cake Seam Binding topped with Early Espresso Quilted Satin Ribbon.

For the base, I used Crumb Cake card stock, layered with Early Espresso and the green chevron patterned paper from Summer Smooches DSP.

The sentiment is from Messages for Mom, stamped in Lucky Limeade ink on Whisper White. I matted the strip with Early Espresso card stock, with a Crumb Cake Small Oval Punch and Early Espresso Designer Label Punch in the back. And because it’s for Mother’s day, what mom doesn’t like pearls? I added two Basic Pearls to the label just for Mom.

Cherry Blossom Card for Mother’s Day

I rediscovered River Rock today. I used to like it. I was happy when it came back in the color renovation. Then, I totally forgot about it. Tonight, I broke it out and mixed it with Baja Breeze, Chocolate Chip, and Pretty in Pink.

This card uses the aforementioned River Rock textured card stock as the base. The stamp is from the Hostess Level 1 Slice of Life (from the Occasions Mini Catalog). I stamped it in Early Espresso ink on Whisper White card stock. I colored in the flowers with Pink Pirouette and Regal Rose Markers. The branches are traced with River Rock Marker.

For the vase, I stamped the image again on scrap paper and colored it in with Baja Breeze, then cut it out and attached it to the card with stampin dimensionals. On each flower, I used Crystal Effects to make them pop.

The sentiment is from Messages for Mom, stamped in Regal Rose ink. The main image layer is paper pierced and matted with Pretty in Pink card stock.

The chocolate chip layer was embossed with the Big Shot and the Elegant Lines Embossing Folder. The ribbon is Baja Breeze Seam Binding, which I scrunched using this technique. To play off the pink flowers in the card, I added some of flowers from the Sweet Hello Simply Sent Kit.

Color Renovation for Mom {Mother’s Day Gerbera Daisy Card}

Since I’m a mom, and my favorite flower is the Gerbera Daisy, this card is perfect for me–too bad I can’t give it to myself!  A few weeks ago, I received samples of soon to be released colors from Stampin Up’s Color RenovationDaffodil Delight, Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler, Marina Mist, and Cajun Craze. This card uses the first three, along with other current colors and returning favorites like Old Olive, Riding Hood Red, and Tangerine Tango.

The card base is Daffodil Delight, layered with Vellum Card Stock that I embossed using the Swiss Dots Embossing Folder in the Big Shot. I adhered it to the base with Mini Glue Dots to tone down the yellow. I’m not a big yellow person, so adding the Vellum really softened the color and makes it more palatable for my taste.

I matted Whisper White card stock with Early Espresso, a dark blackish brown and stamped the mother’s day sentiment from Well Scripted in Riding Hood Red ink.

The daisies were made using the Scallop Circle Punch, in Cherry Cobbler and Tangerine Tango card stock. I cut between each scallop using my paper snips to create the petals. In the center of each flower, I used the 3/4″ Circle Punch to punch out Daffodil Delight and cut a 1/4″ wide strip of card stock (Cherry Cobbler and Tangerine Tango) that I quilled into a spiral shape. I attached the quilled paper to the flowers’ centers using Mini Glue Dots. The leaves are from Sweet Pea Stitched Felt, also attached with Mini Glue Dots.

As a final touch, around the base of the Early Espresso/Whisper White layer, I tied some Old Olive 5/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon into a knot.
