Banana Bread Favors

I made mini banana bread loaves as favors for my sister’s baby shower a couple weeks ago. The recipe was very easy and very tasty–I highly recommend it! (See below). I’ll have more detailed pictures of the favors posted soon.

Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup mashed overripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter 9″x5″ loaf pan or 5 mini loaf pans. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs to combine.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to the butter mixture, and combine. Add mashed bananas, sour cream, and vanilla; mix. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips. Pour into prepared pan.
  3. Bake until tester inserted in center comes out clean, about 1 hour 10 minutes for loaf pan, 35-40 minutes for mini loaves. Let rest in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto rack to cool.

The paper mini loaf pans were from www.target.com, see them here.

I needed 57 favors for the shower, it took me about 9 batches to get there. I made double batches each time, baking them 2 trays at a time. All told, it took about 3 hours to bake all the mini loaves! That does not include wrapping and decorating them. My kitchen was a disaster for a while there!

Notecard Purse

This is a gift set I made to give away as a prize for my sister’s baby shower. I think it makes a great little gift as well! The template for the box can be found here.

I did have to increase the dimensions a little bit on this one because my notecards were a little bulky from all the ribbon I used. I didn’t follow the template directions exactly, but pretty close. You may want to play with your dimensions based on what you’re putting inside the purse. I am including 12 notecards with envelopes, which causes the box to bulge a little!

The ribbon around the outside is not necessary to keep the box closed, it’s more for decoration, but it does keep the handle secured nicely.

These are made from supplies I haven’t used since I ordered them so long ago. I’m trying to use up what I have before I order new stuff from the catalog. It’s hard but I’m trying!!

Supplies: Cardstock: Vanilla Confetti, Urban Garden DSP, Chocolate Chip, Scalloped Notecards (Kraft, Vanilla, Soft Sky)–retired; Accessories: Kiwi Kiss/Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon, Soft Sky double stitched ribbon (retired), glue dots, sticky tape, word window punch.

No stamping or sentiments on these. People can use them how they see fit.

Glitter Crazy

This year my christmas tree will be all peridot and gold. I was inspired by some ornaments I saw at AC Moore a couple of weeks ago and decided on that color scheme. During that same shopping trip, I picked up some clear christmas ball ornaments to play around with. These were so fun to do, and addicting. I went back to buy a second set of balls so I could experiment with more color combinations. I tried many different things, these were my findings:

  • Using reinker mixed with  water was easiest to ensure even coverage before glittering
  • Colored glitter made for more intense color, coverage, and reflectivity as compared to dazzling diamonds alone
  • Mixing the fine colored glitter (red, green, dazzling diamonds, and blue) produced a neat result
